1. Acceptance

By creating an account on BookBesties you agree to this End User Licence Agreement. If you do not agree, do not create an account and do not use the service.

We may update these terms. Continuing to use BookBesties after an update means you accept the revised terms.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate registration details and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for everything done through your account.

One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone else, and do not use a username designed to mislead other readers.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content

BookBesties is a place to talk about books. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour.

You may not post, upload or share content that is: abusive, harassing, threatening or bullying; hateful or discriminatory towards any person or group; sexually explicit or pornographic; violent, graphic or glorifying self-harm; illegal under German or European law, including the use of unconstitutional symbols or slogans; defamatory or knowingly false; spam, advertising, or pirated material.

Insults, slurs and deliberately offensive language are not permitted anywhere on the service — in reviews, club and buddy read messages, replies, usernames or profile text.

4. Content filtering

Posts are automatically screened against a list of prohibited terms maintained by our moderators. Where a term is flagged you will be asked to confirm before posting, and your post will be passed to our moderation team for review. Some terms are refused outright and cannot be posted at all.

Attempting to evade the filter — through deliberate misspellings, substituted characters or spacing — is itself a breach of these terms.

5. Reporting and moderation

Every review, message and reply carries a report control. If you see something that breaks these rules, please report it.

Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, who may remove content, and who aim to act on reports within 24 hours.

Moderation decisions are made at our discretion. Content may be removed without prior notice where it clearly breaches these terms.

6. Suspension and termination

Accounts that breach these terms may be suspended or terminated without notice and without refund. This includes posting objectionable content, harassing other readers, evading the word filter, or repeatedly submitting content that is removed.

Serious breaches — threats, sexual content involving minors, or material that is illegal — will result in immediate termination and, where appropriate, referral to the authorities.

You may delete your own account at any time in Settings. Deletion is permanent.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of what you write. You grant us the licence needed to store and display it within the service.

Do not post content you do not have the right to share, including extended quotations or scanned pages from copyrighted books.

8. Blocking other users

You are never obliged to interact with anyone. You can decline or remove a friendship at any time, and leave any club or buddy read. If someone is harassing you, report them — we will act on it.

9. Availability and liability

BookBesties is provided "as is", without warranty. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we are not liable for content posted by other users.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not permit it to be limited.
